From what I could tell, the north section is still walled off. I doubt that we will see any VIP area until next year and judging from the photos, there is very little being done to the gym, which I already knew since it really wasn’t part of the project.
I’m hoping they would tear down those curtains rods used to divide the courts for practice. I’m also hoping that we will see the free standing hoops.
That’s not much, but it will make the gym look a little better.

According to the podcast, the AD said that the new NBA-style stand alone hoops are in. Look in the corner of the picture below.
Not sure when the hanging hoops are coming down, but it sounded like that might happen before the first game.
I never liked the curtain, but that is a practical need as the gym is still our primary indoor facility and we need to split it for multiple uses at one time.
Based on the progress we can see outside, I'm not sure how the VIP area will be ready for this season, but who knows.
I think the AD understands that most fans weren't happy with the look/feel of the gym. It is very basic high school look and feel. We know we aren't building anything new in this decade, so let's renovate and do what we can do with our limited budget.

Number one concern is to have both sides open for seating. Last year was a nightmare, I don't want to have another.
The scoreboard was not a problem in the past, i am not optimistic about this "improvement".
Why is it that I feel "improvements" are going to make things worse?

Totally agree on the both sides, last year sucked (and I know they know that and it was what it was), people all flocking to the reserved section in the middle of the games and staff chasing them away ( a good thing but a distraction at the same time) it made a low level experience feel even lower. Hope they can fix that in two months. The new NBA style hoops is no doubt an improvement and a welcome change. Scoreboard, jury is out. I totally get they couldn't put it in the middle due to free throw distraction etc. I'd love to see one on both sides using the same content. I understand trying to cater to the students but lets be real here, most of the students that come are from other university teams, who I would guess are asked/forced to attend. Winning brings in the kids. Period. Kids are kids, I'm assuming they still drink. I'm also assuming they still drink on Thursday nights. I'm assuming again that they go home on Friday, cause they always did so your shot at kids is Thursday night so unless we are putting some White Claws under the bleacher seats, we're only going to get so many kids in on an Thursday night. Win and that changes. Lastly, the VIP area, big whoop, the coaches lounge is plenty nice, with great food, drinks and people to chat with. So the only thing I fear about the improvements making it worse is that if he caters to only students and worries less about the season ticket holders, Regardless of how many in numbers, we are the ones who keep coming back regardless, that was one of Paul's mistakes, he knew that and didn't choose to make anything better from that perspective. IMHO, win, cater to your season ticket holders and even more importantly, reach out to those young alumni and try to get them to become season ticket holders cause some of us are getting pretty old.

I agree Hill. I don’t mind at all a supplemental video board but I don’t see the reason for replacing the old one.
Actually, I liked the scoreboard with the NEC team banners as it provided a focal point but the decision was made beyond my pay grade. I also remember when it was new which wasn’t that long ago. It was installed when they installed the current seating.
I recall that stand alone hoops were in the bubble. I’m not sure if the ones in Kaiser are them, or if they are completely new.

Any word on whether the bleachers will be available on both sides of the court for the game against Hartford . I know they stated that the new building will not be done until spring.

I would say no it won't be ready. How do I know?
Because when it comes to Central, Murphy's Law demands it!

It's official. When you go to buy tickets it states general admission is unavailable due to construction.

This isn't really a surprise to anyone, is it? This is a State of Connecticut managed capital project - of course it will be over budget and delivered late.
This news was reported first by the Student newspaper back in September. We cant blame the Athletic Department for this situation - they are just tenants of the building, not the project manager. Maybe we can get an official explanation and update from CCSU Facilities Management on this and the other major capital projects on campus.
J.J. wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 9:27 pmWell I guess it was to be expected for a State project, but the new recreation center is behind schedule per The Recorder.
In Fall 2017, Central Connecticut broke ground for the construction of the Huang Family Recreation Center; two years later, the $25 million building is still under construction.
Originally, the two-story recreation center was set to open in Spring 2019 but is now said to be delayed until Spring 2020. Based on information from Lawrence Brunoli Inc. General Contractors website, the project is about 55 percent complete.
The project manager could not be reached for comment.

True JJ. When I said Bush league, it goes beyond the athletic department.
This would never happen at UC because they control all aspects of their capital projects from design bids to construction and are completely removed from the DAS. Unfortunately, every other public institution has to go through the beaurocracy and mismanagement of the state.
Do you guys recall the screw up with the soccer, baseball and softball fields where for two years, the entire area had so much hay it looked like a scene from “Field of Dreams”? It was an embarrassment as one drove past Ella Grasso Blvd.
This is no different but I’m glad we have this forum to vent.

CCSU's gym does not match it's campus! Time for a new facility! Go big time- why not? WCSU built a ~$100,000,000 arts building... why can't CCSU build a modern facility. Kaiser should be a "recreation and practice" building.

Finally, some good news.
Reliable sources told me that they are hoping to have both sides of Keizer open this season.
