A 41-member Australian swimming team will be in action at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The contingent, featuring 20 women and 21 men, will compete in all 35 medal events (17 women's, 17 men's and one mixed event) at the Paris La Defense Arena.

Swimming at the Paris 2024 Olympics will be held from July 27 to August 5. Competitions will be held in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and medley categories.

Of the 41 Dolphins selected in the Australian swimming team for Paris 2024 pool events, 16 have won Olympic medals previously, including gold medal winners Emma McKeon, Kaylee McKeown and Ariarne Titmus.

Tokyo 2020 was the Dolphins’ most successful Games in history, with nine gold, three silver and eight bronze medals

Emma McKeon, the most decorated Australian at the Olympics with 11 medals, will compete in the women's 100m butterfly event, starting on July 27.

Kaylee McKeown is set to feature in the women's 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley events from July 29 onwards.

Ariarne Titmus will compete in women's freestyle events over 200m, 400m and 800m distances from July 27.

Mollie O’Callaghan, meanwhile, heads into Paris as the 100m and 200m freestyle world champion.

The Australians will also be chasing a fourth-consecutive 4x100m freestyle Olympic title. Australia’s men are world champions in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

The Australian swimming team for the Paris 2024 Olympics also includes 23 Olympic debutants. The relay teams will only be known closer to the event dates.

Individual events of 50m, 100m and 200m consist of heats, semi-finals and finals. The top 16 swimmers from the heats will advance to the semi-finals and the top eight from the semis will advance to the finals, where medals will be decided.

Individual events of 400m, 800m, 1500m distances and the team relay events consist of two phases - heats and finals. The top eight athletes or teams will advance from the heats to the final.

For all single-gender relay events, a team consists of four athletes. For the mixed relay event, a team consists of two men and two women.

Heats for all events take place in morning sessions. Semi-finals, finals and victory ceremonies will take place in evening sessions.

Swimming has accounted for 71 of Australia’s 167 Olympic gold medals. Additionally, the Australian Dolphins have claimed 73 silvers and 77 bronze medals for an overall tally of 221. It is Australia’s best Olympic sport.

Swimmers from the United States have dominated the Olympic pool and boast 580 Olympic medals, including 256 golds. The USA are the most successful swimming nation at the Olympics followed by Australia.
